The Charger is a funny Battlemech. Way too big for its speed or its role, but modern technology can help make it into something kind of scary. With an infinite budget, this is probably what I'd do to the Charger:


  • Make it faster. (TSM and a Supercharger for emergencies)

  • Slap in an XXL Engine. Less survivable and way more expensive, but it gives us lots of room for...

  • A Mace: when TSM is active that's a 40 point whack on someone's head.

  • A Heavy PPC: 15 point lovetaps at 18 hexes.

  • A whole brace of lasers. ERML's to scourge enemies and SLs for crit seeking/heat management

  • A comprehensive electronic warfare suite.

  • A Laser AMS system to help swat down missiles as it dashes around the battlefield.



I would have liked to have squeezed a TAG in there, but I need all those lasers for heat reasons, and I don't want to lower the armor any.

This turns the Charger from being a total gimp to a light mech hunter-killer. Its HPPC can severely wound, if not outright cripple the common 20-ton scout mechs like the Locust or Wasp. Its Mace can ... do more damage than some Mechs have armor. The brace of ERMLs give it a good chance of getting at least *one* hit on its prey. The SLs mostly exist to push the design high enough on the heat scale to get to TSM activation, and then micromanage the heat by a few points here and there. With its active probe and ECM system, it can help with basic scouting duties too, so feel free to attach it to a lance of scout mechs. And in a pinch, it can hit its Supercharger to suddenly lurch into motion and run down unwary scouts (to then pulverize the crap out of). Granted, for the cost of this monstrosity, I could purchase two companies of something sensible like PHX-1 Phoenix Hawks, which probably would in general do the scout hunting job better by simply being in more places at once...

I'd take one over the original prototypes anyday. The Mauler is a lot better for offense and mobility, but pays for it by being twice as expensive. And isn't the stock Mauler pretty thinly armored still for its weight?

A silly but fun point blank weapon:
Close Range Missiles
Cheap, hits hard per missile, but has essentially horrible range due to poor guidance systems.

I dun gone Gauss crazy:
Advanced Gauss Weapons
Intended to sort of be a 'bridge' between Inner Sphere and Clan Gauss Rifles. They generate more heat due to the more volatile capacitors used in the systems always requiring a high current draw to stay charged, indeed they always generate their heat value whether fired or not.

Autogauss
Take the Mech-scale Magshot from TacOps and mix it with a Clan Antipersonnel Gauss Rifle. You now have a heavier inner sphere gauss machine gun.

Miniturized Gauss Rifles
Take a Gauss Rifle, make an AC/2 and AC/5 version. Yeah, they're prolly gonna kinda suck.

Gatling Gauss
One barrel, rotary system of capacitors. (Inner Sphere HAG basically)

Hypervelocity Gauss Rifle
More heat (higher currents involved), lighter ammo, bulkier gun. Kind of pointless to pursue.

I just wanted to see what kind of silly scout mech I could mech if I slapped Stealth Armor on a clan tech chassis. Jumping 10 hexes + Stealth Armor gives silly to-hit numbers that might just make using that XXL engine to mount a kinda big gun worth it.

I just thought I'd be silly and see what fun I could have slapping a Thunderbolt launcher on... a Thunderbolt. Then continuing to be silly I slapped a Blazer on instead of the Large Laser. It's got style, I'll give it that, but is probably pretty suboptimal. You could drop the Blazer to a ER LL, make the Streak rack back to being a 2-rack, and make the Thunderbolt launcher a Thunderbolt-15 and maybe make it better.

So I was looking at model kits right before I went to bed. And I once again came across this one, which I'd like a lot. >.>

So I had the urge to whip up a tank to represent it in Battletech. I almost went with a Dual Gauss tank, but that's pretty much stepping on the Alacorn's toes. Dual AC/20s is the Demolisher. Dual PPCs would just make it a worse Shrek PPC Carrier. So I was going to make it a dual Light Gauss unit, but... that's kind of a lame armament. As far as I know, there's no official dual RAC/5 tank out there, so, here it is.

Hanse Davion from BattleTech. While he reshaped military thinking within his life, he will probably best be remembered for his acts of Magnificent Bastardry. The first being where he ordered the court martial, exile and stripping of name from the son of his Intelligence Secretary - and best friend - as a part of an elaborate ruse to plant him into another state's intelligence network. So successful was this gambit that in the subsequent war (Which Hanse started at his own wedding) he captured more worlds in two years of fighting then his predecessors had in the last two hundred, all but crippling the state and driving its leader to insanity. Why did he do it? As an act of revenge against said leader who had tried to kill Hanse and replace him with a doppleganger.
