Holy crap. The railgun's projectile is generating enough friction in the air that it *started a fire* in its sonic boom wake.

But the fight went on this week, with a mass rally in Bochum staged by Germany’s biggest trade union, IG Metall. Its leader, Berthold Huber claimed Nokia’s decision to be a “declaration of war” to IG Metall. Government officials are still trying to persuade the Finnish company to change its mind. Even chancellor Angela Merkel made a phone call yesterday with Nokia’s CEO and criticized his communication policy.
I found out about this story from the Instapundit. It's pretty interesting, especially as I recall seeing horrible caricatures of American companies in German magazines a few years back, using Nazi-era imagery of Americans as blood sucking mosquitoes (do a search for old anti-semitic propaganda and you'll see Jews depicted the same way). Now the Germans are raging at Finland and Nokia for the cell phone company's decision to relocate to a poorer country in the EU (Romania).
All I can say is, welcome to the American worker's hell, Herr Germany. Please, stay a while.

It's a typical sort of story for this genre, but as I am no friend of the illegal music consortium and its terroristic and morally bankrupt tactics, I thought I'd link it and raise awareness.
