Well, I guess this is really just sorta like meta-confirmation that the original CtS crew will never rock the socks again. :(

So, the party's back on Kolp. Things are going well for them. Vice gets reassigned (Alas Sam can't make the game anymore :( ), the rest of them get promotions (even the dwarf!, but not the slave). After all the recent fetes in their honor, now they're being sent to the edge of the Solar System to go try to find and meet with some Nomads.

Elena had some voices in her head telling her to stay.

We'll see what happens. I'm ready for either eventuality.

Hopefully Justin'll work on the Winter Diaries some more. And be sure to put your characters sheets on the Wiki if you haven't, people. At least I think you'll glance at this. :p

Last week the party got a ship and flew to Trintonia via a gate. They squared off against the Dread Pirate Carscaddon and fought his lieutenants, the space pirates Ridley, Kraid, and Garret. Took too long on the fights.

Today's game went well. The shuttle crashed - I took too long on that bleh. The party had a short fight where they got to meet some of the local fauna. Then they saw a tiny village, learned there were soldiers around - but no one saw fit to have Eretrime ask about whose troops they were. Anyway, they're heading south along a river to Orluc, one of the few actual cities on the planet, leaving Mount Virne and the crash site (with Victor) to the east of that behind. Eretrime tried to get everyone to go swimming in the river, where some more local wildlife introduced itself, peacefully.

Wow. So Conquering the Stars 2 went into its marathon mode again, to make up for the soon to be missing two weeks of time. Anyway, the party made it to... uh... Falsamene via the underground road. Fought the Demon Paranoid. Some baby dragons. Chased by the Momma Dragon. Victor wooped tail. Saw "Impiestown" or whatever I called it in the road. Saw a giant demon and zombie army that apparently is being raised for Falsamene via deal with Vequious. (Wond what that means for our intrepid heroes?) Got a hotel room. I think Victor and Elena might be getting it on now, I'm not sure. I'm darn well not panning the GM camera into their room to find out.

Good things: Started layering the important and future sub-plots together. Let Shara show off Wyrmkiller. Discovered that Cover only blocks Attack Actions.

Bad things: Other people didn't really get to show off their new kewl powerz too much. Paranoid fight ran a bit long, and he wasn't as uber as I wanted. Then again... No comment. :p Game as a whole ran too long, but at least we got where we needed to be.

Wow. Just got done with Conquering the Stars. Started at 2:30 PM. o_O See behind the cut for the gory details.

The party headed north and encountered a place where the mountain was gouged out. A rope bridge, which was cut free, once provided the means across. The party rigged the bridge up and made it across, though they had to leave their lizard behind after the bridge re-broke. Two more days north by foot they found a large lake. Due to the low atmospheric pressure, water freely turns to fog along its surface, and then this roils over the surrounding rocks and down off the sides of the mountain - the Fogfall.

They encountered the Dwarf army from Urshaku. Twice. One group of Urshaku pickets thought the party was a group of Ogres tamed by Galstam. The other thought they were Trolls from Klastamar. Then they started shooting after they saw Vice. The party fell back to regroup.

So, in CtS today, we didn't have any fights. Just some traps and a giant rampaging lizard that no one knew how to steer.

Heading north along the mountain ridgeline to either Klastamar and Galstam, which are Dwarven cities on opposite sides of a lake. Also, they're at war with Urshaku which is where the party just came from.

Last time, they jacked a giant lizard-thing to ride from the creepy Dwarf guy. And they rode it northwards today. They found some abandoned, but trapped fortifications. They made it past the tripwires and explosives, spent a night resting, then found a creepy telepathic dwarf in a locked building. Now they're on their way north with the ultimate goal of reaching 'polar city Falsamene.' Which they apparently don't stand a chance of finding due to being off-worlders. Poor guys.

I wonder what that Neko is up to?
demonicgerbil: (Default)
Oh man, that Dwarf the party ended up fighting (a fight they could have avoided...) was a sick, sick person. Epideromancer indeed.

Time Slip is absolutely brutal on a SPD-heavy character at low levels. I nearly killed Sam's Ninja 3 rounds straight with it. Too bad the Dwarf ended up with crap for dice rolls the rest of the time though. Oh well.
demonicgerbil: (Default)
Got the game going back in its groove yesterday. Party got bushwhacked by some trolls when they left the Dwarf city Urshaku. I thought it was an easy fight for them, but the trolls did do some nice damage thanks to their Eject attack and Berserking themselves. I should have given them their 600 HP that I orignally was going to... Still, we took too long so the Epideromancer fight possibility will have to wait until next time around. I like the schizoid Mithra at the end, though. She's fun. :p

No game today. Hope ze players go join the wiki so they can get their 'free' XP. >.>

Today's session of Conquering the Stars went smashingly well, in my opinion. We crammed in some character development, moving the characters along, a battle, and finally, after 5 (?) sessions of painful wanderings on the MOUNTAIN OF DOOM a rest and reprieve. Though my guest star (Kiani on IRC) didn't show up. *grumble*

Remember players, if you want that extra XP, go join the Wiki and write things. :p
demonicgerbil: (Default)
Not much to say, really.

Played SMAC with Rob yesterday. I think he's pissed off because he declared Vendetta on me (the Believers) and got his Morganite cities swamped with tons of Impact Rovers.

CtS went well. Had fun abusing Charge!. I hope the players enjoyed that fight as much as me.

Leon's game went okay, though I got so hungry I had to run off and make me some dinner in the middle of it. I hate doing that crap, but I was huuuuuungry.

The mysterious Project E is going (slowly). Shadle needs to finish his ability system this week, and I need to finish up my skills system.

Played some Diablo 2 with Tim. That's a surprising amount of fun considering how much Diablo 2 I've played over the years.

Just got done with Quantum Field Theory today (except for the final and the grading/review session).

Finished grading Nuclear Physics today. Hope Dr. Bingham isn't too pissed at me taking so long with that.

I'll grade the rest of my lab writeups this Wednesday and shoot the grades to Dr. Greene.

Talked to Steph. Hi babe!

Ran into Adam on AIM this morning right after it started working. It was like his Dark and Malevolent Will caused it to function.

Scanned in two more Bored in Class comics, giving me a 3 week buffer. I need to doodle a couple more Wednesday to see me through the holidays safely.

About half of my "End of the semester" checklist is crossed off.

Played some King of Dragon Pass and beat the Short Game. Working on the Long Game now.

Oh yeah, need to work on my Astrophysics homework and the take-home final.

Need to play some MoO3 and finish up the 'detective story' in my AAR.

Got a lot of papers to look up for research.

Make that 3 Bored in Class comics scanned.

There's just no rest for the wicked, weary, or wise, and I'm in two of those categories.

P.S. Ekman and Shockwave are rap battling for the DKAID boards title. Which contender from down under will emerge victorious?
demonicgerbil: (Default)
Yeah, so, because of the holiday, I only had two of my players, Justin and Matt. So I ran Shara and Mithras through a grueling gauntlet of hungry carnivores. They'd have possibly made it out without needing a phoenix down, but Shara jumped and the init roll wasn't in Mithras's favor next round. Oh well, them's the breaks. At least they made it out of there with lots of experience fighting a new kind of opponent (animals) in a new environment (the dense fog of the interior of a cloud). gogo xpz
demonicgerbil: (Default)
So, just finished up Conquering the Stars for the day. Threw the players into two gimmicky fights.

One was against "Steel Hawks" based on their namesake from FFT. They had "Shine Lover" which is an attack that lets them steal a player's gil. Then after stealing they'd use Escape and get out of dodge with the money. They ended up taking only 1/8 of Elena's gil, which is okay.

The other fight was against *drumroll* a Nilbog and a Troll. I know, I know Nilbogs are the epitomy of AD&D cheese, but I thought it was fun. (Nilbog: Goblin with A:Everything, W:Healing basically.) Yes, cheesy, ghey, etc., but I had fun, and I hope the players will forgive me and had fun themselves. :p
demonicgerbil: (Default)
Yay. Got another session of Conquering the Stars under the belt, even if it wasn't much of one (everyone had to keep going AFK so it was the Vice and NPCs show :p).

Friday, played Racquetball with my Dad and Rathmann. 5 games of cutthroat. Was dominant the first three, but for some reason I could not return the ball at all the last two matches. Among the interesting phenomena observed:

  • Quantum tunneling of a racquetball through my racquet while everyone watched and agree that I did in fact swing through where the ball was at.

  • Violation of conservation of momentum, as well as total non-Euclidean reflections. Hit the ball directly forward, watch it slowly stroll up my racquet before leaping directly at my head.

  • Rathmann returning my sidewall serves for killshots in the opposite front corner, every time.

Saturday, ran my FFRPG game. Had a good time. Found out Darmond was killing his game on Saturday evenings (Paraphrase: And it doesn't look like I'll have any free time the next five years. Mental response: Well screw you. I teach, take a load of classes tougher than anything you'll probably ever take, and still find time to fulfill the gaming commitments I set out for myself.). In light of this development, I suppose I shouldn't expect Darmond to play his character in my campaign anymore, he certainly hasn't the last two weeks.

Saturday night/Sunday early AM, ordered a bunch of CDs:

  • DKAID - The First Sign

  • McNastee - Bootleggin' 2002

  • McNastee - Bootleggin' 2004

  • Shofiya Entertainment Presents - Trial by Fiya E.P.

  • DJ 31 Degrees Presents - Down South Delivery Man 5

  • Halfbreed - Serial Killaz

  • D.P.M.C. - Acid Reality

  • Bedlam - Wicked Shock C.E.

  • Bedlam - Shock Treatment

  • Halfbreed - The End

  • Menacide - Drugs

  • Menacide - In My World

  • Bizarre - Attack of the Weirdos

  • Geist - "Flatline" / "Cut Throat"

  • Messiah - "Throwaway Rhymes"

  • Malarchi - "Wine&Dine" / "Simple As"

  • Geist - "Rage" / "Cut Throat"

  • Madstylez - Dangerous by Design

Yeah, so, I spent a pile of cash on a bunch of bad rap and horrorcore. At least DKAID, McNastee, and Geist were really worth my money. The Geist single with Rage is on vinyl too. Looking forward to getting that shipped over from the UK - my record player needs some serious love besides The Eagles, Don Ho, and INXS, y'know.

Sunday... not much happened. I worked on some stuff, RPed, and sort of stayed up all night, again.

I'm finally getting off my rump and making preparations for running my oft-delayed IRC game. Behold, Conquering the Stars II in all of its glory.

The campaign info: http://web.utk.edu/~efeger/CtS/cts2.txt
The Worldbook in progress here: http://web.utk.edu/~efeger/CtS/index.html
Anticipated gametime: Saturday afternoons. -- That's afternoons for the Eastern Time Zone.

So, I'm hoping to avoid the scheduling problems other games have by relatively fixing a time for the game and limiting the player pool to 4 warm bodies instead of 6 or more.

I wish I had more of the Worldbook written up so creating a character from Kolp would be easier (be sure to follow the "Short Description of Planets" link on the sidebar in the WB to get an overview of the other planets), but I think going ahead and getting this thing in motion is more important than having a more complete reference that most people won't look at anyways.

I don't know how long I'll keep submissions open. I'd like to get this thing going before Thanksgiving rolls around, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
