Bards

http://www.forsakenworld-wiki.com/fw/classes/bard

"The Bard class is hands down the most technical and complex class available in Forsaken World. Alongside regular spellcasting, the Bard class is home to a unique system known as the Measure. This measure can be populated with music notes that are generated through spellcasting both in and out of spellcasting.

As the measure begins to fill, special buffs are cast that are directly dependant on the order of notes generated. This means that anyone playing a Bard has more to worry about than just spamming their skills - they need to plan ahead to create the proper set of notes for the correct buff at just the right time."

Someone get crackin' on putting that into the FFRPG, or one of its bastard offspring.

If your level one ability is "I can heal people with magic," you might be a healer.

If your level one ability is "I make potions twice as good," you might be a healer.

If at some point you find yourself not doing as much damage as the guy with a sword, you might just be a healer.

If you notice that your job requires you to take the Healing skill, well you might be a healer.

If your job has a higher maximum for Spirit than for Strength, you might be a healer.

Have you ever noticed how some people will pick up a gun and shoot other people with it? Well just because you can do that instead of healing, doesn't mean you're not a healer. Odds are that if you want to do that, and you've put all your points into making your damage more awesome, that really you just might be a healer. Try it out.

Bards.

I've convinced Serigo to play Vandal Hearts. Looks like I might get some help working on the Vandal Hearts WB. >.>

[04:55] < Reisma> You know... in the FFRPG we could combined some of our skills together without much loss.
[04:56] < Reisma> Like take Climb and Swim and put them in some new skill. ... "Going Places"? :p
[04:56] * Amatsu-Sleep has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 180 seconds)
[04:57] < Reisma> Riding and Animal Training probably could fit together without too much trouble. Being able to ride a Chocobo in 'easy' conditions would just be whatever the new skill is with a +60 or +80 bonus.
[04:58] < Reisma> Trade and Negotiation could be smushed into "Business" or something - people try to use Trade to negotiate anyway. -_-
[05:00] < Reinhart> Heh. ^^;;
[05:01] < Reinhart> You could use the 'Athletics' name for Climb/Swim like DnD 4.0 >.>;
[05:01] < Reisma> There we go! :p

From a recent article on rpg.net:

Contributors to RPGnet have always been rewarded with that intangible of 'exposure', as well as an even less talked about value-- 'practice'. This latter one is why I continue to write my monthly column. Being forced to write new material every four weeks, to a deadline, regardless of my day job or ordinary life burdens, has been fantastic for keeping and honing the writer within me. Although I have occasional paying RPG and science writing gigs, creating this column is akin to participating in a writer's guild: write, get feedback, learn.

Yeah, sometimes having to do something every week, every other week, or even monthly, isn't convenient. But it's good for you. The stress you pick up from doing it, and the tit-for-tat with other people as you do it, makes you better at it - even if you don't want to do it at all.

I could mention some examples of this for GMing, but I think most of my audience gets it.

WereQu

[17:38] < Demonic_Gerbil> Oh god. Instead of Werewolves. Werequ. >.<
[17:40] < Demonic_Gerbil> You wake up one morning, after a night where Scorpio was in acendence, and your family is gone...
[17:41] < Demonic_Gerbil> But mmm... it smells someone has been BBQing for breakfast...
[17:43] < Demonic_Gerbil> This is either the best or most frightening monster idea I've had in a long time.
[17:43] < Reinhart> ....
[17:43] < Icecylee> D:
[17:44] < Icecylee> That's all kinda o horrible. Because not only did you kill them, but you took quiet awhile to get the spices juuuust right while cooking them before eating ;_;
[17:45] < Demonic_Gerbil> And you might have saved some leftovers for a midnight (morning) snack.
[17:46] < Icecylee> Open the fridge and there's a head sitting on a plate with an apple in it's mouth?
[17:46] < Demonic_Gerbil> Or a rack of ribs still in the oven. Or a couple chops or steaks on a plate...
[17:47] < Icecylee> hahah baby back ribs. >_O
[17:47] < Demonic_Gerbil> It's just like a Chili's commercial.
[17:48] < Icecylee> yuuup.
[17:48] < Demonic_Gerbil> The best part is that the guy wouldn't know he was a monster, because it would only manifest once a year...
[17:48] < Demonic_Gerbil> And the sheriff/cops might not have enough evidence to convict him of murder...
[17:49] < Demonic_Gerbil> ((Like a Qu is going to not eat the bones, and all the juices/drippings, right?))
[17:49] < Icecylee> Depends on how hungry he was. >.>

Just in case you've been living under a rock, I decided to post this for you. The Returners Final Fantasy RPG is currently reaching the beta phase for the third edition of the rules. You can see more details at Returnerblog.

Just did a quick hack of the Bad Breath script and made one for Forbidden Dance and one for Nameless Song. Access them with !forbidden and !nameless respectively.

I got to do one of my olde tyme rants, and since Sam delete it already from this thread, I thought I'd put my screenshot up for posterity.

Look behind the cut.

Based on EK's time travel game, I went to see how the character I'm working on would far communicating with Justin's science girl.

There's over 10,000 years of language change between them. Roughly a -330% penalty.

[05:22] * Reisma tries talking to justin's science person.
[05:22] < Reisma> -330 penalty!
[05:22] < Reisma> >.>
[05:23] < Reisma> !sugar
[05:23] < Sugarlips> Reisma, 1d100: 99 [Total: 99 (High), Avg: 99.00]
[05:23] < Reisma> :D
[05:23] < Reisma> Botched and failed by 279. >.>

I've started my series of posts on Eldamar over at the Returnerblog. It should be pretty good reading, or at least a semi-interesting history lesson. :p

Tonight I wrote a piece over in Returnerblog about my limited experience playing an Engineer - which all came from [livejournal.com profile] serigo's OLAD campaign this past night. It was quite a blast, and making inventions was pretty fun all on its own. I rather like the 'new' ICS post-Expert Revisions.

I also wrote another entry in my ORD Spotlight series in [livejournal.com profile] returnercon. This time I tackled "Optional Blue Magic."

To-Do:

  • Get a phpbb setup and running so I can recover the contents of that one database backup I made for something I can't talk about.
  • Run XNet some more.
  • Meet with Jay and Victor at 3:30.
  • Implement a thing to include EVA in Status Reels and Attack Reels.
  • Combine various scripts together into a new Gambler Script file to reduce number of files that Sugar needs to load and make distribution simpler.
  • Finish changing the galaxy generation script over to use Sugar's dice roller.
demonicgerbil: (Default)
All of you probably know it already, but I've got some new postings over in Returnercon. The third part of my ORD Spotlight posts and also one about the latest TCL script I wrote for Sugarlips.

[05:12] < Wade> Blame Elisha. :-p

Just finished the last of my informal essays about the revisions to Expert jobs in the FFRPG. Hopefully it's good readin' :p
